When positions expire in OSCAR, it creates uncertainty throughout the law clerk hiring process. Law schools can't properly advise their students, and applicants can't tell if you've completed your hiring or if positions are still available. This leads to unnecessary applications and confusion about your chambers' hiring status. Most importantly, expired positions leave stale data in the system that doesn't accurately reflect your current needs. Keeping your OSCAR positions current takes just a few minutes and helps maintain an efficient hiring process for everyone involved.

How to Spot Expired Positions

  1. Log into your account at oscar.uscourts.gov.
  2. If you have expired positions, you will see a notification at the top of your home page that includes the number of expired positions in your list.
NOTE: You will also be notified of your expired positions via the email account you’ve registered in OSCAR.
  3. Click on the Review Positions button. You will be taken to a list of your law clerk positions; expired positions will be marked with a red Expired tag.
